Welcome to a new pattern making class! Today, I’m going to show you how to make trousers with front box pleats and a fly zip.
I wanted to do this class because I wanted to show you a different way to construct the fly we learned in the previous class.
This is the method I use when creating patterns for mass-production brands.
As you will see in today’s class, once we understand how patterns work, we can find shortcuts to create them more quickly while ensuring they function perfectly.
Today’s class begins with the trouser block pattern, where we will first create the opening system.

I recommend watching the previous class, which is the introduction to making a fly.
Once we have all the pieces for the fly, we’re going to create a box pleat to achieve that trendy look.
I’m going to create a fairly conservative box pleat, but obviously, you can make it whatever size you want.
Once you have all this ready, it will be time to finish the trousers with a straight waistband; although you should already know how to make one by this stage of the course, let’s review the process.
Don’t forget that there is a class on sewing pleats and fly zip to help you better understand this class.
Remember that if you have any questions about today’s class, you can always send me an email via your student account in the support section.
Submit your exercises.
As you already know, the best way to learn is by practising, so for today’s class, I’m going to ask you to do the same patterns that I have.
You can make these patterns at full size or half scale.
Please try to make the photos clear and precise so that I can give you better feedback.
