Welcome to this new sewing class, in today’s class I am going to teach you how to gather fabric.
The class begins by making the patterns for the sample that we are going to make today.
When we gather fabrics it is very important that we mark the notches to all our patterns to know exactly where the gathering is going.
Also when we are gathering the fabric in certain amounts it is very important that you write down the amount to gather as it will help us in our task.
As I have already explained to you in other classes, the amount of volume that we have to add changes depending on the fabric that we are going to use.
Thicker fabrics need less volume than thinner fabrics since the fibres of fine fabrics take up less when gathered.
Remember that we already have a class on how to add volume where I explain all this.

As you have seen in class, when we gather fabric, I usually start by making the hem (there are exceptions) since it is easier for me to sew the hem when there is not as much volume.
For this sample, I have made a machine hem but you already know that you can do the hem that you like the most.
For the best possible look, I recommend that you distribute the same amount of gathering throughout the entire length.
When ironing gathers, it is usually recommended to do a very gentle ironing or even do it only with steam to make it look better.
Remember that if you have any questions about this class, you can always send me an email through your user account in the support section.

As always, the best way to learn to sew and make patterns is to do it yourself.
That is why for today’s class I am going to ask you to send me several photos with the sample that we have made today.
When you send me the photos remember to send me photos both in front and back of the sample where is seen as clearly as possible.
