Welcome to this new sewing class, in today’s class you will learn everything you need to know about the overlock sewing machine.
In this class, I begin by showing samples that I have made so that you can begin to distinguish what type of stitches we make and why.
Some overlocks are capable of making different types of seams such as babylock to make different types of finishes.
The babylock is a very small and neat overlock finish type that is used a lot in partywear dresses.
We will also look at finishes made with a coverstitch. The coverstitch is a specialized machine for sewing knit or stretch fabric.
Once finished with the samples, we will focus on the overlock.
The overlock can be used for different reasons, the first would be to clean the edges of the fabrics very quickly.
And the other reason to use the overlock would be to sew knit (or stretch) fabrics together.
Once we have covered the introduction of the overlock, you will learn in depth the parts of the machine and what all its parts are for.
Then I will teach you how to change the thread very quickly and how we do it in the industry.
Besides, you will see how the overlock is used and the correct way to make the “Turn back” (Back-stitch) as the overlock doesn’t go backwards.
And to end the overlock class, I will teach you how to manipulate the tension to ensure that it is perfect.
For this part of the class I made many samples to show you how to correct the tension.
And if you don’t have an overlock, I’m going to show you another way to clean the edge of your fabrics with a domestic machine.
Submit your exercises
As you already know, the best way to learn is by practicing. So for this class I’m going to ask you to do some exercises.
If you have an overlock, try making several straight stitches and at least one corner stitch.
If you do not have an overlock, do the same exercises but with the stitch that I have taught you on the domestic machine.
