Welcome to a new sewing class. In today’s class, I’m going to teach you how to sew an inseam pocket.
In previous classes, I already taught you how to sew an inseam pocket into the seam allowances; that version was for loose garments.
The insean loose pockets are usually found on dresses and are only attached to the mouth of the pocket.
Today you will learn the version of a pocket attached to another seam, normally it will be sewn to the waistband.
This version is very common in trousers and skirts, where the side seam is closer to your body.
So you can practice all of this, I’m going to leave you some patterns so you can practice the techniques you’ll learn today.
Today’s class begins by identifying the patterns we’ll be working with today, so you understand what each thing is.
We’ll start by fusing the pocket opening, since that area receives a lot of pressure, and this will prevent it from becoming deformed.
Next, we will sew the pocket bag to the front, where we will use the lining pattern.
We will join the other pattern of the pocket bag, using different techniques.
We’ll finish today’s class by joining the back to the front to create the side seam.

Although what we are going to make today is a sample, it is very important that you pre-shrink the fabric before cutting it.
You will find all the cutting instructions inside the pattern, and the seam allowance notes will be explained in the class video.
Remember, if you have any questions about today’s class, you can always send me an email through your student account in the support section.

You already know that the best way to learn to sew is by practising, so for today’s class, I’m going to ask you to make the same pocket that I made.
Download and print the patterns you’ll find below the class video.
Use the same techniques I have used.
Remember to send me photos of the final result and some of the sewing process.
