Welcome to this new sewing class, in today’s class you are going to learn how to sew an elastic waistband.
For this class, we are going to use the patterns from last week, on how to make trousers with an elastic waistband.
Remember that although in the video you will see how I do it with trousers, you can also do it with skirts.
In today’s class, we focus on the waistband but if you want to learn how to sew trousers, you already have the class available in the trousers section.

Today you will learn how to cut the elastic that goes inside the waistband and how to place it in a professional way.
I have decided to put a decorative seam on the waistband but remember that this is optional.
Decorative stitching became popular when laces began to be put on the waistbands to make them hold better.
If you want to put a cord, simply add a buttonhole or an eyelet and use the same method that we have used with the elastic band.
Once the waistband of the trousers is sewn, you can choose the way to finish it as you like best, you could put a lining or simply overlock to clean that seam.
As always, if you have any questions about this class, you can send me an email through your user account, in the support section.
Submit your exercises
Sewing, like pattern making, is best learned by practising, for this, I am going to ask you to make an elastic waistband.
I recommend that you use the patterns of the trousers class but you can also do this exercise in a skirt.
You already know that you can do this exercise in real size or on a half-scale.
Remember that so that I can correct the exercises, try to send me photos where all the elements can be seen clearly.
