Welcome to a new class in the sewing club! In today’s class, I’m going to teach you how to create Pattern Making Rules.
You’ll be able to make this set of pattern making rulers using downloadable PDF templates, which you’ll find just below the class video.
You can easily print these templates at home and turn them into 100% functional tools for designing your own clothing.
They’re available both in full size and half scale.
This complete set of pattern-making rulers includes six rulers:
- Triangle: Ideal for drawing perfect right angles.
- Trousers curve: Perfect for creating smooth curved lines
- Armhole curve: Essential for drafting armholes and tight curves.
- Multi-curve: Your best ally for shaping and adjusting necklines.
- Hip curve (natural waist): Perfect for drawing the hip curve line.
- Hip curve (thin waist): Similar to the previous one, but used when there is a greater difference between waist and hip measurements.
Depending on the country you’re in, these rulers may be called different names. For example, the hip curve is also known as a French curve.
The great advantage of this class is that you get to choose the material. During the video, I’ll show you different options that are both affordable and durable.
After that, I’ll teach you how to transfer the printed pattern onto your final material so your rulers can last a lifetime.

Once you’ve downloaded the rulers, I’ll explain each one and show you how to use them.
As I mentioned in today’s class, although each ruler is designed for a specific purpose, you can use them in other ways too.
For example, I often use the armhole curve to create necklines.
Once you’re familiar with all the rulers, I’ll show you how to transfer them onto another material—such as cardboard—so you can use them as actual rulers.
As always, if you have any questions about today’s class, you can send me an email through your student account in the support section.

You already know that the best way to learn is by practising, so for today’s class, I’d like you to make all the rulers provided.
You can create them in full size or half scale.
Please try to send clear, precise photos so I can give you better feedback on how to improve them (if needed).
