How to expand jeans waistband with own fabric

Welcome to a new sewing alterations class. Today, you will learn an advanced professional sewing technique: how to enlarge or expand a waistband using the trousers’ own fabric for an invisible finish.

In previous classes, we already learned how to make the waistband smaller, today I’m going to teach you how to make it bigger.

The problem we usually encounter in these situations is that we have to add fabric to enlarge the garment.

Sometimes we have to look for a similar (or contrasting) fabric to enlarge the waistband and side seam.

In this class, I’m going to teach you how to use the inner fabric of the waistband to enlarge your trousers.

Finally, I’ll show you how to divide a belt loop (those strips where you put the belt) in 2 so that it hides the new seams.

How much should I charge for this sewing alteration?

As usual in these classes, I’m going to tell you what I charged, but keep in mind that this price was for a workshop in London in a wealthy area.

To do this repair, I charged 44 pounds if I didn’t transform the belt loop (where the belt goes) and 55 pounds if I divided the belt loop into 2.

Remember that if you do this type of work, it’s essential that you charge what you feel comfortable with so that your business can thrive.
