Welcome to a new class on sewing alteration, in today’s class, I am going to teach you how to change a zip/zipper on a pair of jeans.
In today’s class, I am going to show you one of the most common sewing alterations that I found when I worked as a tailor.
Also today you will learn how to shorten a metal zip in case you do not have a zip of the correct size.
Today’s class begins by unstitching the old zip and all the necessary parts to be able to add a new zip.
When we are unstitching zips on jeans it is important that we look at where the pressure points are because we have to add them back.
Once we have removed the broken or old zip, as I told you, we will take a short break where we will learn how to shorten a metal zip.
Whenever we make sewing repairs, it is important to clean all the threads that we unstitch so that the final result is better.
Once we have everything prepared, it is time to place the new zip on the jeans.

As is becoming usual, in the sewing repair classes I tell you what I charged for making this repair.
It is important to keep in mind that I worked in an atelier in London in a fairly wealthy area, although this was more than 5 years ago.
To change the zip on a pair of jeans, I used to charge about 18/20 British pounds.
Remember that if you have any questions about today’s class, you can always send me an email through your student account, in the support section.

As you already know, the best way to learn sewing alterations is by practising, so for today’s class, I am going to ask you to practice changing a zip.
I recommend that you use second-hand jeans or one that you are going to throw away and practice as many times as necessary.
Please send me photos where you can clearly see the before and after, also try to add photos where you can see the sewing process.
