Understand what the Darts are in pattern making – the basic concepts

Welcome to this new pattern making class, in today’s class we are going to start to get familiar with the concept of darts. 

This class is quite short but I think it is necessary. I would have loved to have had it when I was studying pattern making because I think it will help you to understand in a very visual way what pattern darts are and how they work.

We will learn what elements the darts are made of in their most basic form but, as I have told you in the class, the darts can have different shapes. We will see more dart shapes in the advanced classes. 

Then we will learn the different uses that the darts have, from how we use them so that the garments adapt to the body, as well as the opposite, how we will use the darts to add volume to the garments. 

I will also show you how the darts are marked correctly in the patterns and the different ways of adding the seam allowance.

That is all for today’s class. The idea of this class is that you begin to become familiar with the darts and I hope that when we go to make the patterns and I talk about the darts you already understand what I mean and what they do. 

In more advanced classes I will teach you how to manipulate the darts in an industrial and creative way.
