Welcome to a new pattern making class. In today’s class, we are going to learn how to make a one-shoulder neckline.
This neckline is also known as a strap neckline or sari neckline, remember that the names usually change depending on your country of origin.
This neckline is another great opportunity to practice corrective darts and contour points, so I recommend you check out the other classes first.
In today’s class, we are going to learn a new contour point, this is the point that we found on the side seam.
We have to use this contour point when we open the armhole through the side seam since the human body is not straight and we have to rectify these curves.

Today you will learn to make the front and back pattern and thanks to this design gives us the opportunity to practice corrective darts in asymmetrical patterns.
In today’s class, you will also learn how to make facings for this type of neckline.
As you can see in the cover photo, the facing that I have made today also cleans the armhole, but I will also teach you how to make the facing if you want to add a sleeve to this design.
We also go over the master patterns and how to transfer the shoulder dart from the back.
As always, if you have any questions about today’s class, you can send me an email through your user account in the support section.
Submit your exercises
The best way to learn pattern making is by practising, so for today’s class, I’m going to ask you to make the one-shoulder design we did today.
Remember that you can do this exercise at full size or at half scale, whichever you prefer but let me know when you send it to me.
Please, try to send me photos where the patterns with their annotations are seen clearly so that I can send you better feedback.
