Welcome to a new pattern making class, in today’s class, I am going to teach you how to make the lining of a skirt with a vent.
In previous classes, we already learned the necessary techniques to make lining patterns but today we are going to make it more complicated with an opening in the back.
It is important that before watching this class you watch the previous lining classes so that you know the theory that I am not going to explain today.
Today’s class starts by making a pencil skirt, you know that when we reduce the hem and it is a long skirt we have to create an opening to be able to walk.
This opening can be made in several ways, today I am going to show you a fairly common way but keep in mind that it can change depending on the finish you want.
Once we have the outside (or shelf) patterns finished, we will move on to making the lining patterns.
Where we will have to change the length and width to make sure that the lining does not pull up.
Then we will have to modify the patterns of the back lining to be able to clean this vent.
Again, this type of opening can change depending on the finish you want.

To clean up the waist seam I added, off camera, a straight waistband.
Something that is important to keep in mind in this class is that although we have put a closed lining we can combine all these techniques and make a loose lining.
As always, if you have any questions about today’s class, you can always send me an email through your student account, in the support section.
Send your exercises
You already know that the best way to learn is by practising, so for today’s class, I am going to ask you to make the patterns for this skirt.
You can send me these patterns in real size or half scale.
Please try to send me photographs where the patterns and their annotations are clearly and accurately seen so that I can send you better feedback.
