Welcome to a new pattern making class. In today’s class, I’m going to teach you how to make a deep V waistband on a pair of trousers.
Although we are making this waistband on a pair of shorts, you can apply the techniques you will learn today to make a V-shaped waistband on another type of garment.
Since this waistband may be a bit extreme for some people, I’m also going to show you how to make a more modest version.
Today’s class begins by tracing the trousers block patterns, where the first thing we will do is decide the desired length, in this case we will make a pair of shorts.
Next we will move on to making this waistband, where we will take a short break to explain what to do if we do not want it so deep.
Once I have explained all the theory we will return to the original design and finish it.

As always, I will give you all the necessary measurements to make this design, but you can change them to your personal taste.
Also keep in mind that your darts may be different than the ones I use, so I decided to add the extra section on what to do if you have extra darts to remove.
Keep in mind that you always need to make a prototype first to make sure everything works perfectly or in case you want to change something in the design.
Remember that if you have any questions about today’s class, you can always send me an email through your student account, in the support section.
Send your exercises
You already know that the best way to learn is by practising, so for today’s class, I’m going to ask you to make the same patterns that I made.
You can send me these patterns in real size or half scale.
Please try to make the pattern photos clear and accurate so that I can give you better feedback.
