Welcome to a new pattern making class. In today’s class, I’m going to teach you how to make a top with fantasy gathers.
This type of gathering is also known as controlled gathering, since we are going to decide exactly where we want to create the gathering.
The gathering we are going to do today starts from the side seams and moves towards the centre front seam.
Today’s class starts with the front pattern, for this, we are going to use our front bodice block.
The first thing we need to choose is our final silhouette, before adding all this volume.
In this case, I have enlarged the neckline and removed the ease we have in the armhole.
Before watching this class I recommend you watch the corrective dart class.
Once we have the final silhouette, we will decide how to clean the openings, in my case I have chosen to make an all-in-one facing.
Once this is done we will add volume to the front to create this effect.
We will finish today’s class by making the back pattern and its facing.

As always, I will give you all the necessary measurements to create the same design that I have made, but you can change it to suit your personal taste.
Keep in mind the final fabric you are going to use, as I explained in class, thicker fabrics will need less volume than thinner fabrics.
Remember that if you have any questions about today’s class, you can always send me an email through your student account, in the support section.
Send your exercises
You already know that the best way to learn is by practising, so for today’s class, I’m going to ask you to make the same patterns that I made.
You can do these exercises full size or half size.
Please try to make the photos clear and accurate so that I can give you better feedback.
