Welcome to this new pattern making class, in today’s class we are going to learn how to make the leg of mutton sleeve.
The leg of mutton sleeve is known for its unique shape, reminiscent of a mutton’s leg, it has a lot of volume at the top of the sleeve and is quite tight at the bottom.
This sleeve is also known as the Gigot sleeve, it became very popular in the 19th century. We saw it being born in Victorian times and we continue to find it in today’s market.
The big difference is that we now tend to find this sleeve with a smaller volume, remember that I am going to give you the necessary measurements to make this sleeve but they may vary depending on the fabric. Check the class on how to add volume.

As I mentioned to you in today’s class, instead of adding the volume that I have given it, you can reduce it to create a slightly more commercial sleeve or you can even add more volume to make it a more striking sleeve.
This sleeve is a classic that most fashion and pattern making academies will teach you, so I couldn’t miss it.
To finish today’s class, at the end of the video I will give you the instructions on how to sew the leg of mutton sleeve.
As always, if you have any questions about this class you can send me an email through your user account in the support section.
Submit your exercises
The best way to learn pattern making is by doing it yourself, so for this class, I am going to ask you to send me the pattern for the leg of mutton sleeve.
You already know that you can do this exercise in real size or on a half scale.
Remember that so that I can correct the exercises, try to send me photos where the patterns and their annotations can be seen clearly.
