Welcome to a new pattern making class. In today’s class, I’m going to teach you how to make a skirt with a fake placket.
The placket is an opening system where we put the buttons and buttonholes to open or close the garment.
In this case, the placket is only a decorative element that has no functionality, this means that we cannot open or close it.
I will teach you how to make functional plackets and their different styles in another class.
As an opening system, we will put an invisible zip in the centre back, although you could change this.
Today’s class starts with the front, for which we will use the pattern block of the skirt.
First of all, we are going to unfold the pattern because although it seems like a symmetrical pattern, it is not.
Then we will move on to making the fake placket where we will have to create the effect that the placket is on top of the front.
For the back, we will move the dart to the hem using the technique we learned in the A-line class.
We will finish this class by making the waistband with the same effect as the front, where it will look like we have a placket.
You can review the straight waistband theory in previous classes.

As always, I will give you all the necessary measurements to make the same design that I have made, but you can change it to your personal taste.
Keep in mind what we talked about in today’s class, the placket has to accommodate the size of the button so that it looks harmonious.
Remember that if you have any questions about today’s class, you can always send me an email through your student account, in the support section.
Send your exercises
You already know that the best way to learn is by practising, so for today’s class, I’m going to ask you to make the same patterns that I made.
You can do this exercise in real size or half-scale.
Please try to send me photos where the patterns and their annotations are clearly and accurately visible so that I can give you better feedback.
