Welcome to a new pattern making class. In today’s class, I’m going to teach you how to make a pleated skort.
This skort is characterised by the fact that from the front it looks like a pleated skirt, but in reality it is a pair of trousers.
For the pleated part of the skirt, we are going to make 2 different pleats. The first is a straight pleat; this means that it has the same volume at the waist and at the hem.
The other pleats will be uneven, meaning they will have a different volume at the waist than at the bottom.
We make these uneven pleats so that when they are sewn, they do not intertwine with each other and result in a waistband with a very thick fabric.
Today’s class begins by moving the dart to the hem and modifying the length, since these types of designs are usually short, but you can change that.
Next, we’ll mark where we want the folds and add volume to create the desired pleats.
We will continue today’s class by creating the legs of these trousers.
We will finish today’s class by creating the facings to clean up the waist.

Remember to walk through all the patterns to make sure everything works perfectly before cutting the fabric.
It’s important to make a toile (prototype) before cutting the final fabric to ensure that this skort is perfect for your tastes.
As always, if you have any questions about today’s class, you can always email me through your student account, in the support section.

As you know, the best way to learn is by practising, so for today’s class I’m going to ask you to do the same patterns that I have done.
You can make these patterns at full size or half scale.
Please try to make sure the photos you send me are clear and accurate so I can give you better feedback.
