How to make a one shoulder draped dress

Welcome to a new pattern making class. In today’s class I’m going to teach you how to make a one-shoulder draped dress.

This dress is a classic silhouette when making evening dresses.

Today’s class starts with the bodice block patterns up to the hip where the first thing we will do is change the length.

Then we will transform the darts and draw the one-shoulder neckline.

In previous classes, I already taught you how to make the one-shoulder neckline, so in this class, I will not focus so much on the theory of this neckline.

Since it is an asymmetrical neckline, we will have to unfold this pattern to be able to draw this neckline, where we will then remove the ease.

Before watching today’s class, I recommend that you watch the previous classes, specifically the corrective darts class so that you understand the ease.

Then we will create some facings to clean all the openings

To finish today’s class, we will add volume to the front pattern where we will convert this volume into draping.

As always, I will give you all the necessary measurements to make the same design that I have made, but keep in mind that the amount of volume would change depending on the fabric you use.

Remember that thick fabrics require less volume than thin fabrics to create the same drape.

So I recommend that you make a prototype with a fabric of a thickness similar to the final fabric you want to use.
