How to make a gathered skirt with a pointy yoke

Welcome to a new pattern making class, in today’s class I am going to teach you how to make a gathered skirt with a fantasy yoke.

This class is very interesting since we will practice asymmetrical gatherings.

Today’s class starts using the skirt block pattern, we are going to start with the front.

We will start by creating a front yoke, which will end in a pointy shape at the centre front but will have a curved line on the side seam.

Once we have the yoke finished we will add volume to the bottom part to create this gathering.

We will add this volume in two different ways and as I told you in this class, this volume has to change depending on the final fabric you want to use.

Once this is finished, we will move on to making the back patterns which, although they are very similar to the front patterns, will be good for us to review what we have learned.

To finish we will make the facing patterns to be able to clean the waist seam.

As always, I am going to give you all the necessary measurements to be able to make the same skirt that I made, but you can change these measurements to personal tastes.

Also keep in mind that depending on the thickness of your final fabric we will add more or less volume to create this gathering effect.
