How to make a dress with gathered godets

Welcome to a new pattern making class. In today’s class, I’m going to teach you how to make a dress with pointy gathered godets.

This means that the godet will have gathered in a certain area, and in the other area,s we will add volume at the bottom, but it will not be gathered.

We’ll also add a box neckline to make this dress even prettier.

Today’s class starts with the bodice block up to the hip pattern, where we will first have to lengthen it to the desired length.

Next, we will proceed to create the box neckline and remove all the ease to ensure it fits perfectly.

Remember that it’s important that before watching this class, you watch the corrective dart classes so that you fully understand what I’m doing.

Once we have finished the neckline, we will move on to making the front and back side panels.

For the front side pattern, depending on your final fabric, you will need to ease it in or widen it, as you learned in the seam panels classes.

Next, we will move on to making the pointed godets, where we will then add the desired volume to create this striking design.

We will add volume in two different ways to create different effects, but the amount added will depend on the thickness and drape of the final fabric.

You know that a thick fabric needs less volume and a thin fabric where we need to add more to create the same effect.
