Welcome to a new pattern making class. In today’s class, I’m going to teach you how to make a continuous polo collar.
This collar is characterised by the fact that it originates from the placket instead of being a separate piece that surrounds the entire neckline until it reaches another placket.
Today, we’re going to create this collar on a semi-fitted body, but obviously, you can make this collar on any other type of garment you want to design.
That said, keep in mind that this design does not have an opening system, so if you want to make it on a fitted body, you will have to add a side zip.

Today’s class begins with the bodice patterns block up to the waist, where first of all we will move and transform the darts.
Then we’ll add extra ease to make sure we can put this blouse on over the shoulders; keep in mind that this ease will depend on the minimum ease your pattern has.
Next, we create the opening where we will place the placket; we will make this opening on the front and the back.
After that, we will move on to making the collar pattern, where we will learn other shapes or designs that we can do.
Finally, we will trace the collar pattern to create a top collar and an under collar.
We do this because the under collar has to be smaller to hide the seam.
Remember that if you have any questions about today’s class, you can always send me an email through your student account, in the support section.
Submit your exercises
You know that the best way to learn is by practising, so for today’s class, I’m going to ask you to do the same patterns that I have done.
If you wish to make any changes, please let me know in the comments box so I can take them into account when correcting this exercise for you.
You can make these patterns at full size or half scale.
Please try to make sure the photos are clear and accurate so I can give you better feedback.
