Welcome to a new pattern making class, in today’s class, I’m going to teach you how to make classic bell bottom trousers.
The bell bottom trousers or flared trousers are characterized as they are tight trousers at the top and have volume at the bottom.
For the classic bell bottom trousers, the volume starts around the knee, but we can change this to personal taste, starting this volume at a higher or lower point.
Today’s class begins by tracing the trouser’s block patterns, specifically, we are going to start with the front.
The first thing I like to do is remove the ease from the knee, the amount changes depending on your pattern block, if you’re not sure don’t remove it for your first prototype.
I like to remove this ease so that the upper part of the trousers looks more fitted.
Then we will add volume to the bottom of the trousers, you already know that we can add volume in different ways.
Depending on how you add the volume, the shape of the hem will change, so I’m going to show you the result of both ways.

To clean up the waist seam, I simply added, off-camera, a straight waistband.
As always, I am going to give you all the necessary measurements to create the same sample that I have made, but remember that you can change it according to the final fabric or personal taste.
Remember that if you have any questions about today’s class, you can always send me an email through your user account, in the support section.
