How to make an asymmetrical layers skirt

Welcome to a new pattern making class, in today’s class, I am going to teach you how to make a skirt with asymmetrical layers/panels.

This skirt is characteristic because it usually consists of 3 layers sewn symmetrically but to make this class more interesting we are going to make them asymmetrical.

You will learn the classic form, in the romantic dress class where we will learn the theory of that skirt.

These type of layers is usually gathered at the top of the layers but not at the bottom.

Today’s class begins by unfolding the skirt block patterns and we will transform them to have A line skirt.

Then we will move on to drawing the asymmetrical layers or panels that this skirt will have. We can change this design as desired.

To finish we will add a controlled volume to the 2 layers at the bottom of the skirt.

Off camera, I added a straight waistband to this skirt.

As always, I am going to give you all the necessary measurements to make the same skirt that I made, but remember that you can change it to your personal taste.

Also, keep in mind that the gathering measurements will change depending on the final fabric you want to use.

To make gathers with thicker fabrics, you need less volume than thiner fabrics.
