How to make a ruffle sleeve

Welcome to a new pattern making class. In today’s class, I’m going to teach you how to make a ruffle sleeve.

These sleeves are also known as gathered ruffle sleeves.

These sleeves are characterized by a strip of gathered fabric that will also give a rounded shape to create the classic sleeve.

Before we can make any sleeves, we’ll need to have the armholes, so today’s class starts with making a semi fitted/loose body.

It’s important to start with the body because we need to add extra room to the shoulders to make sure this sleeve fits perfectly.

Once we have the body finished, we will move on to making the sleeve pattern, where we will discuss the amount to gather depending on the fabric.

To finish today’s class, we’ll need to clean the openings. This can be done in several ways; today, you’ll learn the most common ones.

As always, I’m going to give you all the measurements you need to make this design but remember that you can change it to your personal taste.

Also, keep in mind that you may need to adjust these measurements depending on the final fabric you want to use.

As you know, thicker fabrics need less volume to create the same effect.

That’s why it’s very important to make a prototype with a similar fabric before cutting the final fabric.
