Welcome to a new pattern making class. In today’s class I’m going to teach you how to make a dress with a belt that comes out from the sides.
Thanks to this belt we can create a knot in the front, creating the effect of gathering under the chest and volume at the bottom.
Today’s class begins by modifying the pattern blocks of the bodices up to the hip, where we will begin lengthening these patterns to the desired length.
We will then move on to adding different ease to these patterns to create the desired effect.
As an opening system, we will put a zip on the back but only on the neckline, since thanks to this ease, we will not have problems when putting it on.
We will also widen the neckline so that this dress is more balanced. Remember that you have to see the corrective darts class before seeing this class.
Once this is done we will move on to making the belt patterns, which as you can see are only long enough to make a simple knot. If you want a double knot you will have to lengthen the belts.
We will finish today’s class by making the facings to clean up the openings of this dress, this includes the neckline and armholes.

As always, I will give you all the necessary measurements to make the same design that I have made, but we can change it to your personal taste.
It will also depend on the final fabric you are going to use, you may have to add or remove some ease.
That’s why it’s important to make a toile (prototype) before cutting this dress from the final fabric.
Remember that if you have any questions about today’s class, you can always send me an email through your student account, in the support section.
Send your exercises
You already know that the best way to learn is by practising, so for today’s class, I’m going to ask you to make the same patterns that I made.
You can make these patterns full size or half scale.
Please try to send me photos where the patterns and their annotations are clearly and accurately visible so that I can give you better feedback.
