Welcome to a new pattern making class, in today’s class I’m going to teach you how to make a dress with a waistband without a waist seam.
This exercise is perfect for learning new techniques and for you to practice techniques that we have already learned but modifying them so you can see how versatile they are.
At the top of the dress, we are going to make a turtle collar but instead of making it double, we are going to make it single for today’s class.
Then we will go on to transform the darts into a gather. In today’s class we will create a controlled gather in the neck area.
We will continue to draft the waistband, this element can be done for a different number of reasons, it is usually done by design but can also influence how it fits on the dress.
At the bottom of the dress, we are going to make a flared skirt. We will use techniques learned in the inserted godet class but I changed it so you can see the difference.

As always, I am going to give you all the necessary measurements to make the same sample that I do, but remember that you can change all these measurements according to your personal taste or that of your client’s taste.
For example, I know that many of you would like to have the collar closer to the body, no problem, but think about the final fabric you are going to use.
Remember that if you have any questions about today’s class, you can always send me an email through your account, in the support section.
Submit your exercises
As you already know, the best way to learn industrial pattern making is by doing it yourself, so for today’s class, I’m going to ask you to send me the same exercises that we’ve done today.
Also keep in mind how you will need to finish the armhole, something that I have explained to you in class.
You can send me these exercises real size or half scale.
Please try to send me photos where the patterns and their annotations are clearly visible so that I can send you better comments.
