Welcome to a new pattern making class, in today’s class, I am going to teach you how to make wide trousers with a belt.
Some designers call this type of trousers, samurai trousers.
This silhouette is very interesting because we are going to create trousers with a lot of volume at the bottom but tight at the top.
We will achieve this top effect with a fold that has a sewn part but I will also teach you how to make a belt and its loops.
Today’s class begins by transforming the trousers pattern block where we will move the dart to create this volume.
Then we will create a fold to add more volume and also make it look like the belt is holding the fabric.
Once we have the finished silhouette, we will mark where the belt loops will go.
I have set the belt loops to a standardized measurement but you can change it to personal taste.
Once we have marked the belt loops, I am going to teach you how to create the loops pattern.
Once we have the loops finished, we will move on to making the belt. I have finished this belt diagonally but you can finish the tip with another effect.

You can find all the measurements that I have used to create this design in the class but remember that you can modify them to your personal taste.
Making the prototype of these trousers will not only help you make sure that there are no errors in your patterns, but you will be able to see the final design and see if you want to change it.
As always, if you have questions about today’s class, remember that you can send me an email through your student account, in the support section.
Send your exercises
You already know that the best way to learn is by practising, so for today’s class, I am going to ask you to make the patterns for these trousers.
You can make these patterns real size or half scale.
Please try to make the patterns and their annotations clear in the photos so that I can send you better comments.
