Welcome to a pattern making class. In today’s class, I’m going to teach you how to make a turtle collar.
The turtle collar is also known as a double collar and we can find it in all kinds of garments, from more sporty blouses to evening dresses.
Today’s class begins by modifying the bodice block patterns, where we will learn how to modify the neckline to ensure that the neck is perfect.
Then we will go on to make the turtle collar or double collar pattern where I will show you how to make it and how this collar works.
For today’s sample, we are going to make a sleeveless blouse where we go over the corrective dart to remove the ease in the bust.
As always I am going to give you the necessary measurements to make the same neck that you can see on the screen, but remember that you can modify them to your personal taste or to the taste of your client.

For the turtle collar pattern, it is very important that you try out several fusing tests to see which is the best result.
Remember that most fusing also has a grainline and we need the characteristics that the bias cut provides us, also in the interlining.
At the end of today’s class, I will also give you instructions on how to sew this collar for a party dress.
As always, if you have any questions about today’s class you can send me an email through your user account in the support section.
Submit your exercises
You already know that the best way to learn pattern making is by practising, so for today’s class, I’m going to ask you to make the turtle collar patterns.
You don’t need to do the armhole facings but please send me all the remaining patterns.
You can perform these exercises at real size or half scale.
Please send me photos where the patterns and their annotations are clearly visible so that I can send you better comments.
