Welcome to a new pattern making class. In today’s class, I’m going to teach you how to make a culotte.
This pattern is also known as a divided skirt and it is the block pattern that we will use if we want to make looser trousers.
In today’s class, I will teach you the difference between the trousers block and the culotte block.
The culotte was an invention of the last century when women began to ride bicycles and classic trousers were not considered appropriate for women at the time.
In today’s class, you will learn how to make the straight culotte at the beginning of the class and then we will transform this pattern into a flared culotte.

In today’s class, we will revise how to take the measurement of the body rise for the culotte but remember that you already learned it in the trousers block class.
When it comes to making the crotch of the culotte, in today’s class I explain that we add at least 1.5cm, so remember that you can lower the crotch more if you want an even more looser design.
To finish this culotte, I have added a straight waistband to finish the waistband, but you could make a facing if you prefer.
As in all my classes, I am going to give you all the necessary measurements to make these patterns but remember that they are only a reference and you can change them to your personal taste or that of your client.
If you have any questions about today’s class, you can send me an email through your user account, in the support section.
Submit your exercises
You already know that the best way to learn pattern making is by practising, so for today’s class, I am going to ask you to make all the patterns that we have made today.
You already know that you can do these exercises at full size or at half scale.
Please, try to send me photos where the patterns and their annotations are seen in a clear and precise way so that I can send you better comments.
