Welcome to a new pattern making class, in today’s class, I am going to update the class on how to make the first prototype – The Skirt
As I explained to you last week, these weeks I am updating some of my first classes.
The class that I updated today is how to make the first prototype, in this case, it is the skirt block.
I have separated this class into 2 different videos this week we will have video number one where I am going to teach you how to walk the patterns.
Walking the patterns is a technique that the pattern makers use to ensure that before cutting the fabric, we have not made a mistake in the patterns.
Then I will teach you how to industrialize the skirt patterns, which means that I will teach you how to add ease and seam allowances.
Once we have the patterns prepared, we will cut the fabric and sew the skirt.

Once we have the skirt block sewn, we have to try it on, in my case, I am going to use the mannequin that I always use.
I will explain to you what elements we have to look for when we test the prototype and if we have to adjust anything in the pattern.
I have added all the fitting topics in video number 2, which will be available in the next lesson.
Where we will see different scenarios and how to make sure that this pattern fits our body or your client’s body.
Once we have the finished pattern, it is time to try different eases to find our minimum movement ease.
To finish we will transfer this pattern to cardboard, we do this because this will help us to reuse this pattern as many times as necessary and go faster.
